Haugerud IF badminton started in 1971 on an initiative from Tore Granerud, who became the first leader of the club. More than 40 years later, he is still active and attends almost every training session at the club.
The number of players has increased during the last 5-6 years and today the club has about 150 regular players from more than 10 countries. Approximately half of our players are below the age of 19. There are players at all levels, from the best ranked players in Norway to players at hobby level. It is possible to play 4-5 days a week. There are organized training sessions 3 days a week with a professional coach.
The club prioritizes participating in team tournaments and has teams in all league divisions from the top Elite to fourth division for adults and in U15 and U13 for younger players. In addition, the club participates in a less formal U11 division. For the 2014/15 season the club has 11 teams in the league.
The club usually hosts two major tournaments in Haugerudhallen. Before Christmas, there is the district championship for Oslofjorden Badmintonkrets and in March there is a national ranking tournament for youth players.
The club is located at Haugerud in bydel Alna in the East part of Oslo and has members primarily from the southern and eastern part of Oslo. Training is either held in Haugerudhallen or in Oppsal Arena. Haugerudhallen is just three minutes walk from Haugerud T-bane station on line 2 towards Ellingsrudåsen.
